About

VMC Inc., St.Paul

ROOTS: VMC’s story – the story of the Viellard and Migeon families – dates back to the 18th century, to just after the French Revolution, when my great-grandfather, Jean-Baptiste Migeon, became manager of a steel forge. It was based (as is VMC today) in the town of Morvillars, in the eastern corner of France, near Switzerland, Germany and Alsace. Under Jean-Baptiste’s management the forge’s activities expanded to include wire and screw manufacturing. It was the marriage of Jean-Baptiste’s daughter, Laure, to Juvénal Viellard in 1835 that united the Migeon and Viellard families. Later, their initials were combined to form our name : Viellard-Migeon and Company. Juvénal Viellard was a skillful and energetic manager. When, 18 years later, he handed the business on to his sons, it was flourishing.
