ST. PAUL-The State Council on Asian Pacific Minnesota along with community, honored Gopal Khanna, the first Asian American to be appointed to a Governor’s Cabinet in Minnesota. The event, held last Thursday evening at the historic James J. Hill House on Summit Avenue, was the first opportunity to celebrate the accomplished, yet uncelebrated civil servant since his appointment last summer.Governor Tim Pawlenty named Gopal Khanna to his Cabinet as the first State Chief Information Officer of the State of Minnesota on July 25, 2005. The position was created by the Legislature to provide leadership for state government technology resources and policies. It is the first time that a member of the cabinet will serve as the principal technology advisor to the governor to assist internal reform and transformation.
